Nothing is final, but it appears Major League Soccer has taken another step toward a work stoppage. After months of negotiations with the league, the players voted Thursday to authorize the first strike in MLS history, provided the two sides fail to reach a new collective-bargaining agreement by the time the new season begins on March 25.

With all the recent discussion over possible work stoppages in Major League Soccer, I think this is a good time to take a new look at that other league playing south of our border. Like all American soccer fans, I hope a work stoppage ends up not being necessary in resolving the MLS labor issues.
